Trinity Lutheran School to expand
The Trinity Lutheran School board has announced plans to expand the elementary school by adding a second class for grades one to five.
This expansion will start with a second first-grade class in the 2007-2008 school year. Each year thereafter, an additional class per grade will be added.
Trinity Lutheran School and Child Care Center will hold an open house and accept registration for the 2007-2008 school year from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Trinity Lutheran School is at 1100 Philadelphia Road, Joppa.

John Carroll to add Chinese classes
John Carroll School, an independent Catholic high school, is adding Chinese to its foreign language offerings beginning with the 2007-2008 school year.
John Carroll offers French, Spanish, German, Latin and Russian, with opportunities to take honors and advanced classes in each discipline.
Students choosing to study Chinese will have the same opportunities. John Carroll also offers a study and travel abroad program to complement the curriculum.

CCC schedules advising session
Cecil Community College will hold a free College Information and Career Advising Session from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elkton Station, 107 Railroad Ave. Advisers from the college's credit and noncredit programs will talk with prospective students about training programs, workplace-readiness classes, lifelong learning resources and financial aid.

Sturtevant wins Scouts scholarship
Thomas Sturtevant of Jarrettsville is one of 11 Boy Scouts receiving college scholarships from the Del-Mar-Va Council of the Boy Scouts of America for outstanding service to Scouting.
The 19-year-old graduate of Harford Technical High School attends Millersville University in Pennsylvania and is majoring in meteorology.
Bookkeeping course offered at CCC
Cecil Community College is offering a "General Bookkeeping I" course from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Feb. 13 to March 15 at Elkton Station.
The fundamentals of accounting and information science will be covered. Reference will be made to computer systems, and the value of accounting information in relation to financial statements.
Tuition is $175, and the course fee is $70.
Students who complete the course will be eligible for "General Bookkeeping II," which begins March 27.

Exelon helps CCC to buy defibrillators
Exelon Generation, owner of the Conowingo Hydroelectric Generating Station in Darlington, has donated $5,000 to the Cecil Community College Foundation Inc. toward the purchase of two cardiac defibrillators.
The funds will buy the defibrillators and pay for training for CCC staff members on how to use them.
The automated external defibrillator or AED is a portable device that can restore normal heart rhythm to patients in cardiac arrest. The machine guides the user through the process.
Bill Woolston, safety and security coordinator at CCC, will train college personnel through an American Red Cross course. Those who complete the course will earn one-year renewable certification for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and authorization to use the device.
