Either Annapolis or Broadneck can attain a milestone when the Panthers host the Bruins in boys basketball tomorrow.
Coach John Brady, who is expected to return to the Annapolis Panthers bench tomorrow night for the 6:45 game, is seeking his 621st career win, which would tie the metro-area record set by late Cardinal Gibbons coach Ray Mullis.
Brady missed Friday night's game, a 63-56 victory at Severna Park, after his mother died two days before. Assistant coaches Daryl Reid and Nick Good-Malloy ran the team in Brady's absence.
The No. 4 Broadneck Bruins, a 64-60 victor over Annapolis last month, is 15-0 after Friday's 72-71 victory at South River (5-10) tied the school record for most consecutive wins set by the 1996-1997 team. The 15-0 start is already a school record, surpassing the 1988-89 team's 13-0 start.
Bruins coach Johnny Williams was a sophomore on the 1989 team, and his coach was Ken Kazmarek, the school's athletic director who stepped down as coach after the 2002-2003 season and turned the team over to Williams.
Brady, in his 30th season at Annapolis, has a 620-121 (.837) career record and is the winningest coach, boys or girls, in state public school history.
Mullis was 621-346 (.642) in 31 seasons through 1995 at Cardinal Gibbons. Only two Maryland coaches have more wins than Brady and Mullis -- retired DeMatha coach Morgan Wootten (1,274-192, 46 seasons) and Cokey Robertson of St. Maria Goretti at 764-587 (.566). Robertson is in his 39th season of high school coaching, the last 33 at Goretti.
