On how Chase Utley's big contract will affect the Orioles' Brian Roberts
With the Phillies signing Utley to a seven-year, $85 million deal, Roberts' agent must be whispering in his ear that his value just increased. Is he as good as Utley? No, but he is a lot better than most second basemen.
I see Roberts accepting a "home team discount" before [Erik] Bedard does. That said, I expect both to remain Orioles.
Roberts is one of my favorite players, but he's not a $10 million player for me.
