The Greater Elkridge Community Association Inc. will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Norbel School in Elkridge to discuss in-fill development that has been proposed on Old Washington Road in Elkridge and an environmental cleanup in the area.
A representative of Brantley Development Corp. will present a new plan for the properties and answer questions. A representative from Maryland Department of the Environment will also speak.

Study-skills classes offered next month
Registration is open for the next Stressless Tests middle school study-skills classes, to be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 6, 13, 20 and 27, at Burleigh Manor Middle School.
The high school study skills classes will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 7, 14, 21 and 28 at Centennial High School.
The cost is $165, and includes the Study for Success digital video disc by Betty Caldwell. Classes are limited to 15 students.

Learning English -- The Miller branch library offers an English Conversation Club from 7:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Mondays for people who speak English as a second language and would like to practice conversation in a group setting. First-time participants must register in advance. 410-313-1950.
Elkridge library -- The Elkridge library, 6540 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, offers Games Night for Teens, ages 11 to 17, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. A parent-child book club for ages 11 to 17 with a parent will be offered from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month. The group will discuss Surviving Antarctica: Reality TV 2083 by Andrea White. Registration is not required.
Chess is available for ages 11 to 17 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Players of all skill levels are welcome but must know how to play. Registration is not necessary.

Mah-jongg -- Drop-in mah-jongg games are held from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Kiwanis-Wallas Recreation Center. Admission is free. Legal aid -- Attorney Valerie Rocco will be at Ellicott City Senior Center, 9401 Frederick Road, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday for the 60 Plus Wills and Legal Screening Program. Services offered include simple wills, powers of attorney, living wills, small estates and deed changes. The program is open to Howard County residents ages 60 and older. Knitting for charity -- A community-service knitting and crocheting group meets to knit and crochet afghans, blankets, baby clothes and other items for charities, hospitals and senior centers.
