Comment -- Tywain McKee, the Eagles' leading scorer, went 0-10 from the field in their latest narrow loss, at Norfolk State.

Loyola (9-6, 5-1)


Coming up -- Towson at Reitz Arena tonight (7 p.m., MASN); at Saint Peter's on Friday (7 p.m.); at Rider on Sunday (4 p.m.)

Comment -- The Greyhounds have won four straight, the past two in overtime. Tonight is for bragging rights on Charles Street; they can avenge their only Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference loss Friday, at Saint Peter's.

Maryland (15-3, 1-2)

Coming up -- at Virginia tomorrow (8 p.m., Ch. 54); at Virginia Tech on Sunday (7:30, FSN)

Comment -- The Terps shot 22.4 percent in a loss to Miami and 62.7 in a win over Clemson. They share seventh place in the Atlantic Coast Conference with Virginia. Virginia Tech is a surprise unbeaten in the conference.

Morgan State (4-10, 2-2)

Coming up -- at Norfolk tonight (8 p.m.); South Carolina State at Hill Field House on Saturday (4 p.m.)

Comment -- Freshman guard Reggie Holmes came up big in Saturday's overtime win at Hampton, so the Bears can surpass last season's win total tonight.


Mount St. Mary's (5-12, 4-2)

Coming up -- at Saint Francis (Pa.) Thursday (7 p.m.); at Robert Morris on Saturday (7 p.m.)

Comment -- The Mountaineers have two winnable games in Western Pennsylvania this week. For the second straight season, they struggled against their nonconference schedule but are prospering in the Northeast Conference.

Navy (11-7, 1-2)

Coming up -- at Holy Cross on Wednesday (7 p.m.)

Comment -- Reeling until they routed Lafayette, the Midshipmen head to Patriot League power Holy Cross in a better frame of mind. Navy last won 11 games in 2000-01.


Towson (7-9, 2-4)

Coming up -- at Loyola tonight (7 p.m., MASN); at Hofstra on Thursday (7 p.m.); UNC-Wilmington at Towson Center on Saturday (3:30 p.m.)

Comment -- The Tigers were lifeless against George Mason and trailed by 13 at the half at Virginia Commonwealth. Hofstra had a six-game winning streak end Saturday; UNC-Wilmington won the Colonial Athletic Association tournament last season.

UMBC (6-11, 2-2)

Coming up -- at Maine tomorrow (7 p.m., MASN); Hartford at RAC Arena on Thursday (7 p.m.); at Boston University on Sunday (1 p.m.)

Comment -- There's no place like home - unless you're the Retrievers, who are 1-5 at RAC Arena and 5-6 on the road. Jay Greene is second in the America East in assists (5.7 per game).


UMES (2-13, 0-4)

Coming up -- Delaware State today (noon, ESPN2); Shenandoah on Wednesday (7 p.m.); Florida A&M; on Saturday (6 p.m.)

Comment -- The Hawks, who open a four-game homestand today with a Martin Luther King Jr. Day national telecast, won't leave the state until February.
