Chef to mark restaurant opening

Discussion to focus on higher education

The Maryland Higher Education Commission's education policy committee will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the commission's main conference room, 839 Bestgate Road, Suite 400, Annapolis.

Topics to be discussed include: first professional degree at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland; Hagerstown Business College as a degree-granting institution; final adoption of proposed amendments to regulations for out-of-state institutions: right of first refusal, state funding for mandated professional development schools; and retention and graduation rates at public and four-year campuses by SAT scores.

Commission Secretary Calvin W. Burnett, Assistant Secretary David Sumler and Education Policy Committee members will hold the meeting.

The Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly "Membership 101" session from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday and Jan. 26 at the chamber offices.

Breakfast to honor business women

The Baltimore/Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce will hold a kick-off breakfast, "Business Women of the Corridor," to celebrate the third season of the Women in Business program.

The breakfast will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Courtyard by Marriott/Fort Meade, 2700 Hercules Road, Annapolis.

The Laurel Main Street Festival is accepting applications from vendors, entertainers and marching bands to participate in the event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 12.
