Makin' Out at Sonar
The lowdown -- When Sonar started hosting live bands in its current location, much of its attention to club and lounge music fell by the wayside. Now, owner Lonnie Fisher is beginning to revive the venue's club and lounge scene. DJ Feelgood recently moved back into the city and started a Thursday night residency called Makin' Out a couple of weeks ago. The next one is tonight.

The lowdown -- Local jazz funk group Mofofunka will play its last show as a band at the 8x10 tomorrow night. The seven band members have kept the band on hiatus and are going their separate ways after the gig. As a parting gift to fans, they're releasing their last CD, Brown Town Lounge, the same night. Funk rock band the Grilled Lincolns is the opening act for the late show.

The lowdown -- Chick Hall's Surf Club in Bladensburg is celebrating Elvis' coming birthday (he would have been 72) with Surfin' With the King, a dance party on Saturday. Come in costume - there will be music by live bands the Hula Monsters and Reverb Galaxy, trivia, and an Elvis man and woman lookalike contest. Mai tais made from the recipe at Alexandria's now-closed Honolulu Restaurant will be the drink of the evening.
