Gunshot victim is city's 275th homicide of '06
A 37-year-old man who was shot in April and died in November was classified late last month as the city's 275th homicide victim in 2006, police said yesterday.
The man was shot about 1 a.m. in the 3900 block of W. Forest Park Ave. on April 26, and was hospitalized for several months before he died, police said. His name was not released because family members have not yet been notified, a police spokesman said.
The city ended 2006 with six more homicides than the previous year, according to police statistics.

Embezzler gets 15 months
A former financial secretary for a Carroll County high school who had pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $200,000 in school funds was sentenced yesterday to 15 months in jail.
Wendy Sue Bowers, 39, of Taneytown, will be eligible for work release from the Carroll County Detention Center to help her pay back the $228,330 she stole over seven years from South Carroll High School in Sykesville, said Melissa O. Hockensmith, a senior assistant state's attorney. Bowers, who had pleaded guilty in October to one count of theft, received a five-year sentence, with all but the 15 months suspended.
Another Carroll County school financial secretary, Linda Sprinkle, was convicted in December of stealing about $20,000 from Hampstead's Shiloh Middle School. Sprinkle, 54, of Hanover, Pa., is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 22, Hockensmith said.
