Stock exchanges were closed yesterday for the New Year's Day holiday, and they are closed again today in observance of the national day of mourning for former President Gerald R. Ford.

The Federal Reserve and most U.S. government offices are closed in honor of the former president, who died Dec. 26 at age 93. The minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee's Dec. 12 meeting will be released tomorrow instead of today as originally scheduled. While the Board of Governors of the Fed in Washington will be closed today, the 12 regional Federal Reserve banks will operate and provide all usual financial services.
