Comment -- The Eagles finished second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference last season to Delaware State, the favorite again in 2006-07.

Loyola (5-6, 1-1)


Coming up -- Marist at Reitz Arena tomorrow (7 p.m.); Iona at Reitz Arena on Saturday (noon).

Comment -- Center Hassan Fofana underwent foot surgery last week and is out indefinitely. Forward Michael Tuck (knee tendinitis) also did not play in a 13-point loss at Michigan State.

Maryland (13-2, 0-1)

Coming up -- Iona at Comcast Center on Thursday (8 p.m.).

Comment -- Winless Iona will conclude the nonconference portion of the schedule for the Terps, who'll finish with 15 straight games in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Morgan State (2-8, 1-0)

Coming up -- Florida A&M; at Hill Field House on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.); Winston-Salem State at Hill Field House on Friday (7:30 p.m.)

Comment -- After a 12-day layoff, the Bears will start a rare three-game homestand. They need to be more active on the defensive end, where opponents have made 51.6 percent of their attempts.


Mount St. Mary's (2-10, 1-0)

Coming up -- at Long Island on Thursday (7 p.m.); at Monmouth on Saturday (7 p.m.).

Comment -- Coach Milan Brown bit the bullet at Maryland and rested Mychal Kearse, his top perimeter defender, hoping his tendinitis will heal in time for Northeast Conference play.

Navy (9-5)

Coming up -- at New Jersey Tech today (7 p.m.); at Bucknell on Saturday (7 p.m.).

Comment -- The Mids last won at Bucknell, the premier program in the Patriot League, in February 2001. Navy last beat a Division I team Dec. 4.


Towson (6-5, 1-0)

Coming up -- Virginia Commonwealth at Towson Center on Wednesday (7 p.m.); at Georgia State on Saturday (2 p.m.).

Comment -- The Tigers get into the meat of their Colonial Athletic Association schedule with a visit from VCU, which has beaten Alabama-Birmingham and Houston.

UMBC (4-9)

Coming up -- at Binghamton on Wednesday (7 p.m.); at Stony Brook on Saturday (2 p.m.)

Comment -- The Retrievers' losing streak reached four when they couldn't defend the three-point line against Central Connecticut State.


UMES (2-10, 0-1)

Comment -- With four players averaging in double figures, the Hawks are confident about improving last season's four wins in the MEAC.
