The Sykesville Police Department has noticed a recent increase in minor crimes.
Officials encourage residents to secure their homes and vehicles, and report any suspicious activity, individuals or vehicles in their areas.

Cards made for 'Wounded Warriors'
Members of the Westminster Rotary Club recently provided Christmas cards for "Wounded Warriors," military personnel recovering from injuries at Walter Reed Army and Bethesda Naval medical centers.
Personal greeting cards were forwarded to a chaplain for distribution among wounded servicemen and servicewomen.
When the grandson of a club member heard about the cards, he thought it might make a good project for his third-grade class at Gerstell Academy.
Teacher Anna-Marie Bobart agreed, and the 15 students in her third-grade class made 107 cards for the "Wounded Warriors." Kindergarten students in Kim Eisman's class also made 10 cards for the project.
The club presented the cards to coordinator John Stambaugh to send to the military chaplain.
Agency publishes guide to services
The Carroll County Department of Citizen Services has published a new, updated Guide to Human Services in Carroll County.
The 48-page booklet includes a quick reference of telephone numbers for various agencies from the Bureau of Aging to housing, legal, social services, health and crisis, roads, and fire and police.
Information on community resources provided by government agencies and nonprofit organizations are also listed in the guide.
The guide is available at all public library branches, county senior centers, the Department of Citizen Services and the County Office Building, and online at www.ccgovernment.carr.org.
County to continue care food program
Human Services Programs of Carroll County will continue to sponsor the Child and Adult Care Food Program for Family Day Care homes in Carroll County.
Meals will be provided at no charge to children in licensed family day-care homes.

Take old electronics to recycling center
Carroll County Recycling Operations provides a permanent drop-off site for used electronics.
Acceptable items can be brought to Northern Landfill's Recycling Center during regular hours 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
Acceptable items include: computer monitors, speakers, mouse keyboards, cables and cords; televisions (no consoles); central processing units; cell phones; personal digital assistants; printers; power supplies; laptop computers; scanners; and miscellaneous circuit boards, chips and cards.
Unacceptable items include: wooden stereo speakers, software, kitchen or bathroom appliances, paper or cardboard and Styrofoam.
