St. John's lists its Christmas Masses

St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church will celebrate four Masses for Christmas at 4 p.m. Sunday, Christmas Eve. Two Masses will be said at Wilde Lake Interfaith Center; two Masses will be said at Oakland Mills Interfaith Center.

Also on Christmas Eve, Masses will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Wilde Lake Interfaith Center; 8:30 p.m. at the Oakland Mills center, and at midnight at the Wilde Lake center.

On Christmas Day, Masses will be celebrated at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and noon at Wilde Lake Interfaith Center.

Wilde Lake Interfaith Center is at 10431 Twin Rivers Road; Oakland Mills Interfaith Center is at 5885 Robert Oliver Place, both in Columbia.

Christmas Day Mass planned at hospital

Howard County General Hospital will have a Mass at 10 a.m. Christmas Day. The Roman Catholic liturgy will be open to everyone. It will be celebrated in the hospital chapel.

Candlelight Service at Mount Airy church

Taylorsville United Methodist Church, 4356 Ridge Road, Mount Airy, will hold a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Celebration Church Candlelight Service

Celebration Church, 6080 Foreland Garth, Columbia, will hold a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at 6 p.m. Worship services will be held at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and noon.

There will be no Christmas Day service.

A New Year's Eve Watch Night Service will be held at 10 p.m. Worship services will be held at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and noon.

The theme for the holiday services will be "Rekindle the Joy of Christmas." Services will include Christmas music and readings from Scripture. The pastor, the Rev. Robbie Davis Jr., will speak about the warmth and meaning of Christmas and the Celebration Choir will perform.

Cross Life service set at Grace Episcopal

Cross Life Community Church, a Southern Baptist church, will hold a Candlelight Christmas Eve Service from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Grace Episcopal Fellowship Hall, 6725 Montgomery Road, Elkridge.

Journeys Community meets in Columbia

Journeys Community, a nontraditional spiritual seekers' group, meets at 10 a.m. Sundays in the second-floor auditorium of Vantage House Life-Care Retirement Community, 5400 Vantage Point Road in Town Center, Columbia.

Journeys Community has published a book, Seeking the Spirit: How to Create a Community of Seekers.

The book describes the history of the Columbia group and its nontraditional liturgy, which draws on many cultures and faith traditions.

Included are readings, music and film clips from sources such as Mother Teresa and Stevie Wonder.

Jewish womanhood to be class topic

The Lubavitch Center for Jewish Education will offer classes to introduce girls ages 11 to 13 to Jewish womanhood. Classes will begin at 7:45 p.m. Jan. 7. Regular classes will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays.

"How to be a Jewish Woman" will include crafts, poetry and discussion. No synagogue affiliation is required; there is a fee for the class, which runs for 12 to 15 sessions.

A free women's Bible study class (children welcome) is offered at noon Wednesdays, and a text-based Torah study class is offered from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays. The cost for materials is $36.

Thrift shop has fall, winter clothing

Trinity Episcopal Church's Gift & Thrift Shoppe, 6010 Waterloo Road at Old Montgomery Road in Elkridge, has fall and winter clothing available.

The shop is at Pfeiffer's Corner, behind St. John's Lutheran Church.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and the first and third Saturdays of each month.
