Seminar to focus on business success
The Howard County Economic Development Authority's Center for Business and Technology Development will present "Smart Start to Business Success" from 8:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 10 at the center, 9250 Bendix Road North, Columbia.
Topics will include selecting a legal business entity, taxes and liability, keeping records, bank financing and insurance options.
An attorney, accountant, banker and insurance adviser will present the seminar. The cost is $39.
A seminar, "Government Contracting Resources," for businesses considering competing in the federal market or those in the early phases of entry will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 30 at the center.
The cost is $149. Registration is required.

Chamber schedules 3 January programs
The Baltimore-Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce will hold a seminar, presented by David Libdan of Applied Resources and Knowledge LLC, called "A Lesson From Fish: A Fresh Look At Our Assumptions," from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Jan. 9 at chamber offices, 312 Marshall Ave., Suite 104, Laurel.
The talk will focus on the impact of unconscious or unchallenged assumptions on choices that people make.
The cost is $10 for members; $20 at the door for nonmembers.
Applied Resources is a consulting firm specializing in business-process improvement and cycle-time reduction.
"Business Women of the Corridor," a celebration breakfast for the third season of the chamber's Women in Business program, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Jan. 12 at the Courtyard by Marriott/Fort Meade, 2700 Hercules Road, Annapolis Junction. The cost is $20 in advance for members; $30 at the door and for nonmembers.
