Rodney Malcom had a startling experience in Ellicott City late Saturday night, so he's asking about "any reported sightings of comets or large meteorites. I was ... walking to my car when I saw a large 'ball of fire' shooting across the sky ... with a tail. It seemed very real. Am I crazy?" Probably not. It was likely a fireball, a relatively big meteor, skipping through the atmosphere at a low angle. It might have been part of the annual Geminid meteor shower, which peaked Thursday morning.
