Former police officer indicted in fraud

A former Baltimore police officer and a private company employee were indicted yesterday on felony theft charges, with authorities alleging that the pair conspired to steal about $153,000 in fraudulent workers' compensation benefit checks, according to the Maryland attorney general's office.

Authorities allege that Andre Stover, a Woodlawn resident and former officer, conspired with Natalie Mack, a former insurance claims adjuster with CompManagement Inc.

Investigators allege that Mack issued the checks to Stover in exchange for a percentage of proceeds in a scheme from May 2003 to April 2004. A city police spokesman said that Stover was fired in April 2003.

Stover was indicted in Baltimore County on felony theft charges; Mack was indicted in the city on charges of felony theft, felony insurance fraud and conspiracy, the attorney general's office said.
