McNair to Heap starts it off
Despite squandering a 39-yard punt return by B.J. Sams negated by an illegal block-in-the-back penalty on fullback Ovie Mughelli, the Ravens capitalized on their first series when quarterback Steve McNair hit tight end Todd Heap on a pump-and-go in the right corner of the end zone. Pittsburgh amassed just one first down and punted on its first two possessions.
Ravens: Heap 20 pass from McNair (Stover kick), 10:20.

The Ravens continued to extend their advantage with an eight-play, 47-yard drive capped by running back Jamal Lewis' 1-yard rumble off left guard. Thomas brings back fumble
Pittsburgh went on its first promising march by taking the ball to the Ravens' 30-yard line, the Steelers' first drive into Ravens' territory. But cornerback Corey Ivy, unimpeded off the right side, stripped Roethlisberger of the ball, and linebacker Adalius Thomas returned the fumble 57 yards for a touchdown. The Ravens had just 27 yards of total offense in the period.
Ravens: Thomas 57 fumble return (Stover kick), 4:46.

'D' adds exclamation point
The Ravens doused any hope of a Pittsburgh comeback by sacking Roethlisberger on fourth-and-goal from the Ravens' 10 and intercepting the quarterback twice. Stover's 40-yard field goal after Ivy intercepted Roethlisberger at the Steelers' 27 ended the scoring.
Ravens: FG Stover 40, 4:15.
