Paterno injured
Penn State coach Joe Paterno was carted to the locker room after one of his players ran into his left leg early in the third quarter of a 13-3 loss at No. 17 Wisconsin. Freshman tight end Andrew Quarless tumbled into the 79-year-old coach while catching a short pass along the sideline.
Paterno, 79, was flown back to State College, Pa., ahead of the team with a member of the school's medical staff, and was expected to have X-rays last night and a magnetic resonance imaging test today or tomorrow.

Florida defensive tackle Marcus Thomas, who had been suspended in September for violating the school's substance-abuse policy, was kicked off the team during the game with Vanderbilt. Thomas was listed on the roster as being dressed for the game, but the school released a statement early in the fourth quarter that said Thomas had been dismissed.
Pittsburgh coach Dave Wannstedt suspended tight end Darrell Strong indefinitely after a touchdown celebration in he appeared to make an obscene gesture to the crowd during a 22-12 loss at South Florida. Strong, who was penalized for celebrating excessively, apologized to South Florida and his teammates in a statement released by the school.
