Veterans Day events set

Story session, prayer services and breakfast among offerings

Several organizations will observe Veterans Day with services as follows:

Westminster Senior and Community Center will hold a Veterans Day program at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at 125 Stoner Ave. Seniors are requested to take memorabilia, photos and souvenirs to share. Songs, readings and a guest speaker will be featured. Lunch reservations are required. 410-386-3850.

Mount Airy branch library will hold a program, "Honor Our Vets," for teens and adults at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at 705 Ridge Ave. Members from the Mount Airy Veterans of Foreign Wars post will tell stories from their service. 410-386-4488.

Winters Mill High School will host its fifth annual Veterans Day Breakfast on Friday at 560 Gorsuch Road, Westminster. A breakfast will be held at 7:50 a.m. in the cafeteria, followed by a presentation at 9:15 a.m. in the gymnasium. 410-386-1500.

American Legion Gold Star Post 191 of Mount Airy will hold its 12th annual flag raising and blessing of veterans ceremony at noon Saturday at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church on St. Michael's Road. All veterans and deceased members of the Knights of Columbus Council 10525 will be honored. The post also has been invited to a Veterans Day reception at 10 a.m. Friday at South Carroll High School.

The American Legion Hesson-Snider Post 120 will hold a Veterans Day ceremony to honor those who have served in the Armed Forces at 11 a.m. Saturday at the post home, 9 Broad St., Taneytown. All military veterans are urged to attend. A luncheon will be held afterward. 443-340-8017.

American Legion Post 31 will hold a Veterans Day ceremony to honor past and present veterans at 4 p.m. Saturday at the old Westminster Armory, 11 Longwell Ave. 410-848-9000.

North Carroll Senior and Community Center will hold a program, "Freedom is Not Free," at 10 a.m. Nov. 15 at 2328 Hanover Pike, Greenmount. Tom Craig, a World War II re-enactor, will offer a tribute to veterans. 410-386-3900.
