Man dies after being struck by a car in Howard Park

Police were attempting to identify a man who was fatally struck by a car Tuesday night while standing in the middle of a heavily traveled street in Northwest Baltimore's Howard Park neighborhood.

Witnesses reported seeing the man standing in the middle of the southbound lanes of the 5000 block of Liberty Heights Ave. about 11 p.m. and leaning over, said Agent Donny Moses, a city police spokesman. The driver of a 2002 Jaguar swerved to avoid the man who, witnesses said, appeared to step into the path of the vehicle and was struck by its driver's side bumper, Moses said.

The man was pronounced dead at Sinai Hospital at 11:19 p.m. No charges were lodged against the driver, but the state's attorney's office is reviewing the incident, Moses said.
