Candidate for U.S. House launching TV ad on war

Congressional candidate Oz Bengur is launching an Iraq-themed television ad to begin running today on the Internet.

The 30-second ad will be featured on a banner advertisement on The Sun's Web site. The same ad will begin running on four local Baltimore television stations Monday.

The ad begins with a montage of pictures of troops in Iraq.

"As a father of a Marine who fought in this war, I understand what our troops are going through and how George Bush has failed them," the Democrat says in the ad.

Bengur, an investment banker, is running for the 3rd District congressional seat. The seat is being vacated by Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin, who is running for U.S. Senate.

Bengur, who lost a 2nd District congressional campaign to then-Baltimore County Executive C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger four years ago, faces seven other Democrats in the primary.

The only other candidate to begin television ads is Andy Barth, a former WMAR-TV news reporter.

Barth, also a Democrat, began running six 10-second ads July 4. The ads, running on three Baltimore stations, feature Barth stressing that he is not a career politician.
