Anger-management workshop set Aug. 3


The Family Tree, a nonprofit organization, will present an anger-management workshop for adults from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Elkridge library, 6540 Washington Blvd.

Participants will have an opportunity to discover their anger style and learn alternative ways to express their feelings.

The program is free, and snacks will be provided.

Learning English -- The Miller branch library offers an English Conversation Club, for people who speak English as a second or third language, from 7:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Mondays. First-time participants must register in advance. 410-313-1950.

School registration -- Hollifield Station Elementary School is accepting registration from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Kindergartners must have been born between Oct. 1, 2000, and Sept. 1, 2001. Parents must be residents of Howard County and live in the Hollifield Station school district. A picture identification, current lease or deed, current utility bill, pupil's birth certificate and proof of immunization (unless a religious exemption is claimed) are required at registration. Legal services -- Attorney Valerie Rocco will be at Ellicott City Senior Center, 9401 Frederick Road, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday for the 60-Plus Wills and Legal Screening Program. Services to be offered include drawing up simple wills, powers of attorney, living wills, small estates and deed changes. The program is open to Howard County residents ages 60 and older. The cost is on a sliding scale. Appointments, which are required, should be scheduled as far in advance as possible. The program, sponsored by the Howard County Department of Citizen Services' Office on Aging, is available on the fourth Wednesday of each month. 410-313-1400.

Batson to speak -- Fantasy author Wayne Thomas Batson will speak from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Miller branch library. Batson, who teaches at Folly Quarter Middle School, wrote The Rise of the Wyrm Lord, his second book in The Door Within trilogy. The program is suitable for those ages 11 to 17. In partnership with Border's Books & Music, copies of the books will be available for purchase and signing. Registration is required. 410-313-1950.

Chess club -- Elkridge Young Adult Chess Club for ages 11 to 17 will meet from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Elkridge library, 6540 Washington Blvd. No experience is necessary, and players of all skill levels are welcome. Snacks will be provided. 410-313-5077.

Meet Ulman -- Councilman Ken Ulman, a Democratic candidate for Howard County executive, will attend a "Meet and Greet" event, to be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Elkridge library, 6540 Washington Blvd. Members of the public will have the opportunity to ask questions in a small-group setting. For girls -- The Elkridge library is offering Girls Group, a chance for girls ages 12 to 15 to meet and talk about favorite books, movies and music, and try a craft.
