Bartlett sponsors business talk
Congressman Roscoe Bartlett will sponsor a small-business roundtable about the future of long-term care and Medicaid from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow in Hagerstown.
Bartlett is vice chairman of the House Small Business Committee that will conduct the roundtable in the Washington County Commissioners meeting Room 227 at 100 W. Washington St.
Speakers will include other congressmen, health officials, financial personnel and an attorney.
Senior community grand opening
Westminster Ridge senior community will hold a grand opening at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at 505 High Acre Drive.
A ribbon cutting, tours and refreshments will be featured. Carol Baker, deputy secretary of the Maryland Department of Aging, will be the guest speaker.
Westminster Ridge is a 162-unit lease community for seniors, built and managed by Brightview Senior Living. It includes independent living, assisted living and Alzheimer's care units. Reservations are requested for the grand opening.
Democratic Club hosts forum
The Carroll County Democratic Club will hold a candidates forum at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Westminster Senior Center, 125 Stoner Ave.
Statewide candidates are scheduled to attend.

Helminiak kicks off campaign at home
Larry Helminiak, Republican candidate for the House of Delegates District 9B, will hold a campaign kick-off rally from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 16 at his Eldersburg home.

July named parks, recreation month
The National Recreation & Parks Association has designated July as Recreation and Parks Month.
The Carroll County Department of Recreation and Parks has created a calendar of activities for July highlighting various programs and facilities in the county.
Copies of the calendar are available at Carroll County Public Library branches, in the County Office Building and online at http:--ccgov.carr.org/recreation.
Library wants help with initiative
Carroll County Public Library is looking for volunteers age 16 and older to assist with a new initiative, Crossroads Cafe.
The program was designed by the library, Carroll Community College and the Literacy Council of Carroll County to allow English language learners to study at their own pace while receiving guidance and social support.
Volunteers are needed to greet and assist students in the library, help entertain accompanying children and give library tours.
The library and community college will provide training.
Crossroads Cafe will meet from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturdays at the North Carroll library branch, 2255 Hanover Pike in Greenmount.
