Short, coarse, rude, politically incorrect and nasty -- that's the thumbnail description of Frank Reynolds, the character that brings Danny DeVito back to the world of weekly TV comedy tonight. And it's been awhile -- 23 years since his last turn as Louie De Palma in the long-running ABC sitcom Taxi.
It is no accident that Reynolds seems a lot like De Palma or any number of characters that DeVito has played since Taxi in such feature films as Throw Momma From the Train and Ruthless People. In Hollywood, if something works, it tends to keep getting repeated until it doesn't.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia airs at 10 tonight on FX.
