A.R. "BUCK"HABERKORN III, a founding partner of Boston-based venture capital firm HLM Venture Partners and devoted supporter of several local children's welfare organizations, died June 24 at his summer home in Salters Point in South Dartmouth, MA. He was 59. Born in Baltimore, MD, Mr. Haberkorn was a resident of Dedham and South Dartmouth, MA. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1968 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Masters of Business Administration with distinction from Harvard Business School in 1970. At HLM Venture Partners, a firm that provides venture funding to early stage healthcare businesses, Mr. Haberkorn helped to found and encourage many entrepreneurial companies. Prior to HLM Venture Partners, Mr. Haberkorn was a partner at Harvard Management Company, which manages the Harvard University endowment. Mr. Haberkorn served on several corporate boards in Boston and was the former President and Director of the Boston Security Analysts Society. Mr. Haberkorn served on various boards in Boston including the Kids Fund at the Boston Medical Center, the Boston Boy Choir of the Boston Archdiocesan Choir School, and the Angel Fund at St. John & St. Hughes Church in Roxbury. Mr. Haberkorn was a former member of the board of the Boston Lyric Opera and member of the board of the Metropolitan Opera Guild in New York City. With his wife, Mr. Haberkorn was a member of the New Bedford Yacht Club in South Dartmouth, the Coalition for Buzzards Bay, and the Dedham Historical Society. Mr. Haberkorn leaves his wife Elaine Murphy of Dedham and Salters Point; sisters Mary Beth Haberkorn of Harvard, Carol Jean Lang of Maryland, and Tish Haberkorn of Georgia; and many nieces, nephews and godchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 29, at the Trinity Church in Copley Square in Boston. Memorial donations may be made to the Boston Archdiocesan Choir School at St. Paul's Church in Cambridge, MA.
