BUTTERFLY FESTIVAL AND EXHIBIT
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the live butterfly exhibit Wings of Fancy, which runs now through Sept. 17 at Brookside Gardens South Conservatory, 1500 Glenallan Ave., Wheaton, a Butterfly Festival will take place from noon to 4 p.m. today at Brookside. The festival will feature a plant sale of butterfly host plants and nectar plants, garden walks, a lecture on butterfly gardening, a concert, kids activities and more. All festival activities are free. At the exhibit, visitors can observe butterflies of numerous species flying freely throughout the garden and learn about the butterfly life cycle. BUTCHERS HILL GARDEN TOUR
Embark on the seventh annual Butchers Hill Garden Tour from noon to 5 p.m. today and take a gander at 12 urban gardens. Also, be sure to catch a good look at the artist exhibits along the way. The exhibit Opening Doors: Making a Difference runs through today at the Columbia Art Center, 6100 Foreland Garth, Columbia. Local artists, celebrities and politicians decorated more than 70 small tabletop doors to reflect their own inspiring stories. Hours are noon to 5 p.m. today. 410-730-0075.
