LAURA "ANNA" DICKSON, 85, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2006. Born on October 12, 1920 in Hyndman, PA , the youngest of 10 children to Cecil and Laura Mason Shaffer, she graduated from Tyrone High School in 1938, and worked for A T & T for many years. Married in August 1942 to John Robert Dickson, she became a devoted military wife through three wars, learning to bloom where she was planted. She settled in Cockeysville, MD after his military retirement in the late 1960's, where she remained until 1988. She then moved to Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill, and was involved in many recreational activities there. She traveled the world, from archaeological digs in New Mexico to historical sites in China and Tibet. She was a loyal fan of the Russ Morgan Orchestra, enjoying many big band cruises. A skilled seamstress, she was an avid Baltimore Orioles and Durham Bulls fan, enjoying many ball games with family and friends. She was a long time member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Towson, MD, and First Church of Christ, Scientist in Chapel Hill, NC. She was predeceased by her parents, six sisters, two brothers, her husband John in 1986 and granddaughter Kelly in 1979. She is survived by her sons, John Robert Dickson Jr., of Raleigh; and Vance Atlee Dickson and wife Pat of Towson, MD; sister, Marion Shaffer Morris, of Arlington, VA; grandson Douglas C. Dickson and wife Elaine of Charlotte, NC; granddaughters Danna L. Dickson of Charlotte, NC; and Kathryn D. Hill and husband Kevin of Blue Ash, OH. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday June 22, 2006 at Carolina Meadows lecture hall in Chapel Hill, NC. She will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC in July.
