An article in yesterday's editions misidentified the office Diane DeCarlo held at the time she was defeated by Andrew P. Harris for the 7th District Senate seat in 2002. She was a senator, having been appointed to fill out the unexpired term of Sen. Michael J. Collins.

A review of the book Indefensible by David Feige that appeared Sunday in the Ideas section incorrectly stated that Feige's day as a Bronx public defender ended at 10:18 p.m. In fact, the day described in the book lasts longer, extending to 1:06 a.m., more than 16 hours after Feige's workday began.
