Abingdon man badly injured in shooting
An Abingdon man was in critical condition after being shot in the back early yesterday in Edgewood, police said.
Paul Eugene Cottingham Jr., 21, was shot once about 3 a.m. in the 1300 block of Goldmeadow Way, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies who arrived on the scene found Cottingham lying face-down in the road near his car. He was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center and underwent surgery yesterday morning.
A search of the neighborhood failed to turn up a suspect or a weapon, police said.
Man kills woman, shoots self
A 24-year-old woman died and a man police said was her boyfriend was hospitalized yesterday after a double-shooting in a Southeast Baltimore apartment that city police said was a homicide and attempted suicide.
Shot in the head and pronounced dead at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center shortly before noon was Katiria Delacruz, 24, a resident of the apartment in the 1400 block of Angelsea St.
Hector Santiago Manzueta, 25, who had been living with Delacruz for less than two weeks, was being treated at Maryland Shock Trauma Center for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and was expected to survive, police said.
Police said that while the pair had a relationship, Delacruz was married and had at least one child who is living elsewhere with her husband.
Police said that about 10:30 a.m., Manzueta called a cousin and told him he had just shot Delacruz. The cousin immediately called police and gave them the address.
Shortly before Southeastern District officers arrived at the apartment, the man had shot himself in the head but was able to answer the door and allowed the officers inside, police said.
In an unrelated slaying yesterday, an unidentified man was shot about 9:15 p.m. in the 300 block of Denison St. near Edmondson Ave. and died a short time later at St. Agnes Hospital, police said. Details were not available.
