Fundraiser to have auction, speaker
The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults will present its ninth annual Summerfest, featuring a talk and book-signing by Dr. LaSalle D. Leffall Jr., chairman of the board of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and professor at Howard University College of Medicine.
Leffall, author of No Boundaries: A Cancer Surgeon's Odyssey, will speak about his experiences as a surgeon and oncologist and the work of the Ulman Cancer Fund.
The event will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. tomorrowat the east Columbia branch library, 6600 Cradlerock Way, Columbia.
The evening includes live and silent auctions featuring items including an autographed Lance Armstrong jersey, round-trip tickets on Continental Airlines, and 4- and 5-star hotel packages in New York, San Francisco, Washington and New Orleans.

Deadline to change affiliation is nearing
The deadline to change political party affiliation before the gubernatorial primary election is 9 p.m. Monday.
There is an exception for any registered voter who has moved from one Maryland jurisdiction to another since the last general election, Nov. 7, 2004. These voters can change party affiliation until the registration books close at 9 p.m. Aug. 22, the deadline to register to vote.

Golf classic to raise money for hospital
The 28th annual St. Agnes Foundation/Crothall Healthcare Golf Classic, to raise money for St. Agnes Hospital, will be held Monday at Turf Valley and Waverly Woods golf courses.
The event features golf contests, commemorative gifts, silent and live auctions and door prizes. An awards ceremony and reception, and an opportunity to network, are planned. Tee-off is at 8:30 a.m. at Waverly Woods; 9 a.m. at Turf Valley. Registration starts 1 hour and 15 minutes before tee-off.

CA board seeking applicants for panel
The Columbia Association's board of directors is seeking applicants to fill vacancies on the Wildlife and Habitat Committee, a subcommittee of the association's Open Space Committee.
Members of the subcommittee will advise the Open Space Committee and the board on habitat for wildlife in Columbia's open space.
Applicants, who must live on Columbia Association-assessed property, will be appointed for a two-year term.
