Baltimore Sun’s BEST party in 2 weeks

Documentary makes for compelling TV

THE BALTIMORE SUN

It is late on New Year's Eve in a children's cancer ward, and a teenager lies unconscious -- near death. His mother is with him, straightening his blankets, smoothing the sheets, talking in a low, soothing voice.

The final moments of New Year's Eve in Times Square play out on a flickering wall-mounted TV set. The mother stops to watch the New Year's ball descend as the onscreen cheering mounts.

A Lion in the House will be screened at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Turner Auditorium, Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, 720 Rutland Ave., with filmmakers Steven Bognar and Julia Reichert and Dr. Robert Arceci in attendance. Free. For tickets, visit tickets@mdfilmfest.com. The show will air 9 p.m. June 21 and 22 on MPT (Channels 22 and 67).
