Stroke and distance

More than 600 long-distance swimmers hopped into the bracing waters of the Chesapeake Bay on Sunday to participate in the 4.4-mile Great Chesapeake Bay Swim. The event raised $175,000, primarily for the March of Dimes and the Chesapeake Bay Trust. Most made it, but about 40 people had to be plucked from the choppy waters after being defeated by the current.
