Wesley United holds Strawberry Social

Wesley United Methodist Church in Hampstead will hold a Strawberry Social from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today at the church, 3239 Carrollton Road.

Ice cream, strawberries, hot dogs and cotton candy will be featured, for $1. Music, crafts and games for children will be included.

The church will hold its vacation Bible school from 9 a.m. to noon June 19-23. Children age 3 through fifth grade are welcome. This year's program will be a trip around the world learning what a difference Jesus makes. Registration is requested.

Panther Drive work planned

Hampstead plans to replace a failing culvert under Panther Drive this summer.

The work will require closing Panther Drive, with no through traffic, from mid-June, after schools close, into August.

Residents will be able to access Dakota Road from the south end of Panther Drive. North Carroll High School will be accessible only from Route 482.

Senior center plans trip, luncheon

The North Carroll Senior Center, 2255 Hanover Pike, Greenmount, has announced activities.

A new chapter of the Red Hat Society is forming in the North Carroll area. The first meeting will be held at the senior center at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Fun loving senior women who enjoy the companionship and frivolity of other like-minded women are welcome. Suggestions for the new group's name and activities will be welcome.

A trip to Midway, Del., will be taken Thursday.. The cost is $20, with a rebate of $15 in coins.

A "Tool Time" Father's Day luncheon will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Men should bring a hand tool. Lunch will be held at 11:30 a.m. and Just Us will entertain.

Grace United shares a 'snip-it' of history

Grace United Church of Christ will present a "Snip-it" from the church's 250-year history at the 10:15 a.m. worship today.

Fire company holds carnival tomorrow

Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 will hold its annual carnival tomorrow through Saturday at Memorial Park off Route 140.

Lunches will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and dinner will be served at 4 p.m. The carnival grounds open at 5 p.m. daily. Rides open at 7 p.m.

Discounted ride nights are tomorrow, Tuesday and Thursday. The firemen's parade will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Raffle drawings for cash will be held Saturday.

Concerts at 7:30 p.m. daily are: Northwest Middle School Band, tomorrow; Hat Creek Country, Tuesday; No Alibi, Wednesday; Thursday Reign, Thursday; Bob Plunkert & Real Country, Friday; Iron Ridge Bluegrass, Saturday.

Lions Club to hold Tee Off for Sight

The Valley Lions Club of Pleasant Valley will hold its "Tee Off For Sight" golf tournament on Friday at Quail Valley Golf Club in Littlestown, Pa.

Registration and breakfast will begin at 7 a.m., a rules review at 7:30 a.m., putting contest at 7:45 a.m. and play at 8 a.m. Lunch will be held at Pleasant Valley fire hall.

Bethel United holds strawberry festival

Bethel United Methodist Church will hold its 116th annual strawberry festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 24 on the church grounds at 3001 Hooper Road near Marston.

This year's event will include a craft and yard sale. Vendor space is available.

Faith Lutheran Bible school set

Faith Lutheran Church will hold a daytime and evening vacation Bible school June 26-30 at 1700 St. Andrews Way, Eldersburg.

Children's vacation Bible school (age 3 by Jan. 1, 2006 through fifth grade) will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. Youth (completing sixth grade) to adult Bible school will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The theme is "Fired up about Jesus."

Two evening classes will be offered: "If God Is for Us," exploring our sense of worth; and "How to Study the Bible." Light dinner and child care will be provided.

A closing program and fiesta carnival will be held June 30, including fiesta food, a puppet show, and games for the whole family.

Senior Center plans Movie Day, trip

South Carroll Senior Center, 5745 Bartholow Road, Eldersburg, has announced activities.

Terry Serio will discuss "Swim for Health - Fish in the Diet" at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Movie Day will be held at 10 a.m. Friday.

A Father's Day celebration will be held June 20, with lunch at noon and entertainment by Just Us at 12:30 p.m.

A trip to Annapolis will be taken June 21, featuring lunch at Marriott and a sail on the Woodwind.

'Vid Tech' show coming to library

Eldersburg branch library, 6400 W. Hemlock Drive, is offering:

"Gametopia" for teens at 7 p.m. tomorrow. The Teen Advisory Board is sponsoring an evening of video and board games. Snacks will be provided.

Sykesville Tae Kwon Do Academy will present a demonstration at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. June 22, and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. June 23 for ages 4 to 10. Academy students will show what they've learned and what the martial arts is about. Registration is required.

"Bob the Vid Tech" for ages 5 to 10 at 11 a.m. June 24. Maryland Public Television's children's host will present the Vid Kid Road Show to encourage children to read and write their own stories. Registration is required. Information: 410-386-4488.

Calvary Assembly to hold car show

Calvary Assembly of God Church will hold a benefit car, truck and motorcycle show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 8234 Woodsboro Pike, Walkersville.

Cash, plaques and goodies bags will be given to the first 100 cars. Entry fee is $10. Trophies will be awarded in each class.

Concert to benefit breast cancer

Suzanne Eldridge, who has had family members with breast cancer, will sponsor a Breast Cancer Research Foundation Fundraiser Concert and Fun Day for Kids from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedarhurst Unitarian Universalist Church, 2912 Club House Road, Finksburg.

Performances will include dancers from the Merritt Dance Company, children's folk music, solos and duets performed by local artists and students.

A children's craft table, face painting and storytelling also will be featured.

Admission is a $5 donation for adults and $2 donation for children at the door.

Zion United to hold Sunday school event

Zion United Methodist Church will hold its 124th annual Sunday school picnic from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 8 at the church, 2716 Old Washington Road, Shipley.

The Westminster Senior Center, 125 Stoner Ave. will hold a strawberry festival and picnic style luncheon with strawberries and ice cream at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office will present a K-9 demonstration at 10 a.m. Thursday.
