3 up, 3 down

Jacque Jones, outfielder, Cubs -- He hit .500 over the past seven days with three homers and is batting .309 for the season. After batting .249 last year, Jones is batting .331 against right-handers and .340 on the road.

Andy Phillips, first baseman, Yankees -- With New York banged up, Phillips has filled in well, hitting .414 over the past week with three homers and seven RBIs. He's batting .284 this year, but has struck out 20 times in 88 at-bats.

Jason Schmidt, starter, Giants -- San Francisco's ace tied a franchise record with 16 strikeouts in his last start against the Marlins. Schmidt has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his past eight starts. For the season, he is 6-2 with a 2.53 ERA and three complete games.

Nick Swisher, outfielder, Athletics -- After starting the season on a tear, he has cooled considerably. Swisher hit .091 over the past week without a home run or RBI. A dip in average could have been predicted because he hit .236 last season.

Prince Fielder, first baseman, Brewers -- Milwaukee's rookie managed just one hit in 22 at-bats over the past seven days. Fielder has homered once in his past 22 games. He has still been solid this year, hitting .298 with nine home runs and 33 RBIs.

Josh Beckett, starter, Red Sox -- In his past two starts, he has allowed 14 earned runs in six innings. Beckett gave up 14 homers last year, but has given up 16 already in 2006. They have all come in road starts in which he has a 7.00 ERA.
