Activities planned at Annapolis center

The Annapolis Senior Center has announced the following activities:

Today, 9:30 a.m. to noon, free blood pressure and glucose screenings.

Tomorrow and June 29, 12:30 p.m., holiday bazaar workshop.

Friday, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Walking Club will explore downtown Annapolis. Event will be canceled if it rains.

June 12, 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., talk on reverse mortgages.

Tuesday, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Lunch Club will travel to Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Annapolis. Registration.

June 14, 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., Reiki clinic to be offered. Register for appointment.

June 15, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., day at Mayo Beach.

June 19, 1 p.m., presentation on hospice living.

June 19 through 23, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., accepting donations for annual flea market. All items should be in good condition. No clothing.

June 20, 9:30 a.m. to noon, mini-massages for head, neck, hand and back. Call for appointment.

June 21, 1 p.m., Caribbean party with Johnny Walker. Registration.

June 22, 6 a.m., trip to Deale for a day of fishing. Price of the trip is $50, which includes pole and bait. Bring hat, lunch, drinks and cooler for fish. Registration.

June 26 and 27, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., AARP Safe Driving Course. Fee: $10, payable at time of registration.

June 30, 10 a.m., to 1 p.m. Walking Club will go to Westfield Shoppingtown Annapolis.

Arnold center plans variety show

The Arnold Senior Center will present its fifth annual variety show at 12:30 p.m. June 16 at 44 Church Road. This event will showcase singers, dancers, musicians and other talented participants.

Light refreshments will be served after the show.

Seniors sought to teach life skills

The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging is seeking "volunteer grandparents" to work with children 15 to 20 hours a week. Activities include mentoring, tutoring and giving advice on life skills, with extra attention for children in Head Start, special education or living in shelters and family-support centers.

Participants must be income-eligible and at least 60 years old. Benefits include a tax-free stipend, paid training, free transportation, sick leave, lunches and medical exams. Information: 410-222-4464.

Annapolis center plans trip, dinner

The Annapolis Senior Center will host a trip to Niagara Falls and Toronto from June 19 to 23. This will include a boat ride on the Maid of the Mist, a dinner at Skylon Tower and a visit to the casino.

The cost is $525 (double occupancy) or $644 (single). An itinerary will be available at 1027 Bay Ridge Ave., Annapolis.
