Center assists job seekers

The Columbia Workforce Center, a division of the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, and the Howard County One-Stop Employment Center offer free workshops to assist job seekers. The center also provides assistance to those seeking a new career path.

A workshop on Applying for State Employment is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the center, 7060 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia.

"Navigating the Federal Job Search Process, a workshop on writing an effective application for a federal job, will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

"Buying a Home," a workshop on the advantages and disadvantages of renting and buying property, will be offered from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 15.

A "One Stop Orientation" to services provided by the Howard County One-Stop Center will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. June 19.

Grand reopening for hair salon, spa

Symmetry Hair Studio and Luna's Day Spa, 9051 Baltimore National Pike, Ellicott City, will hold a grand reopening from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

A disc jockey, food provided by Blue Pointe Grille, door prizes and free eyebrow-threading and chair massages are planned.

Business group plans annual event

The Business Women's Network of Howard County Inc., a nonprofit networking organization, will hold its annual meeting from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 21 at Historic Oakland, 5430 Vantage Point Road, Columbia. The Iron Bridge Wine Co. will cater the event.

The organization's 2006-2007 board of directors and officers will be formally elected and introduced, and the incoming president will speak about the network's goals for the year. Volunteers will be recognized, and an annual scholarship award will be made.
