Days End Farm Horse Rescue in Lisbon will present its spring carnival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 24. The public is invited to visit the 48 horses that live on the farm, listen to live music and enjoy a variety of activities.
Pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, hair braiding, balloon darts, a basketball toss, golf and other games will be available for children. A massage booth is planned for adults, who can also stroll through Bubba's Bargain Barn.
Staff and volunteers will be at the carnival to discuss their work, the horses available for adoption and volunteer opportunities at the farm. Founded in 1989, the farm has rescued more than 1,000 abused and neglected horses.
Proceeds will help support the farm's mission to foster compassion for and responsibility toward horses through intervention, education and outreach.
Days End is at 15856 Frederick Road. Tickets ($5 for families, $2 for individuals and $1 for children to age 12) are available at the door.

Cross country camp set at River Hill
Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks is accepting registration for its Cross Country Camp, to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 7 to 11 at River Hill High School in Clarksville. The camp will be conducted by the school's varsity cross country coach, Earl Lauer. The focus will be on video analysis of running technique, training basics, diet and nutrition, care and prevention of injuries and equipment selection.

Classical music -- The Glenwood library branch, 2350 Route 97 in Cooksville, will sponsor a talk by Alfonso Uribe of Tower Records on "Building a Classical Music Collection" at 7 p.m. June 12. Registration is required. 410-313-5577.
PSAT/SAT prep -- River Hill High School will offer a two-session PSAT/SAT prep course in preparation for the October 2006 tests. The course will run from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday starting June 19. Session 1 will begin with a verbal review at 9 a.m. A math review starts at 10:45 a.m. Session 2 begins with the math review at 9 a.m. and the verbal review at 10:45 a.m. Classes are limited to 15 students a session. Summer camps -- Marriotts Ridge High School is accepting registration for its Mustang Boosters Club Summer Camp, offering athletic programs throughout the summer for children in grades three to eight. Activities will include lacrosse, softball, baseball, football, basketball, tennis, soccer, volleyball and field hockey. Donations sought -- Shepherd of the Glen Lutheran Church, 14551 Burntwoods Road, Glenwood, is collecting books, videos, compact discs, digital video discs and records for its media sale. Items can be left in or around the blue box at the parking lot side entrance to the church. Tax-deduction forms are inside the lid of the box. Do not leave donations if rain is predicted. If a car is parked near the door and the door is unlocked, contributors should feel free to enter and place donations on any table in the church.
