Candidates forum planned for tomorrow


A "Meet & Greet" for Democratic candidates is planned for 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Savage library branch, 9525 Durness Lane.

Attendees can meet Del. Neil F. Quinter, who is running for re-election, and Jen Terrasa, a candidate for County Council in the 3rd District. Del. Shane E. Pendergrass, who is running for re-election, and Councilman Guy Guzzone, who is running for the House of Delegates, also are expected to attend.

The candidates will speak briefly and take questions. There will also be an opportunity to speak individually with the candidates.

Rec council classes to start June 12

The South Laurel Recreation Council is accepting registration for summer classes for children, teens, adults and families.

Classes, which will be held at Montpelier, Oaklands and James Harrison elementary schools and at the Montpelier Carriage House and neighborhood park, begin June 12. Registration is required.

Fitness classes include yoga, tai chi and tennis. Arts and crafts classes are to be offered for children. Classes for youth and adults include counted cross stitch, scrapbooking and self-defense. Salsa, Latin dance and country line dancing classes are also planned.

Savagefest continues -- Savagefest, an annual community celebration, will continue from noon to 5 p.m. today. Attractions include ponies, a "Wave-of-Fire" slide and an obstacle course for young children. Vendors will sell duct-tape wallets, marshmallow shooters, festive dog collars, handmade purses, popcorn T-shirts, hand-painted wine bottles and beer-box cowboy hats. Music will be provided by Beggars by Noon. The Savage Historical Society calendar for 2007, "Sketches of the Savage I Remember," will be available at the society's booth. Bethel Christian Academy will offer a free health fair, with blood pressure and other screenings and health information, at the Savagefest. Jennifer Weaver, 301-980-1439.

Out of the attic -- Laurel Museum, 817 Main St., is showing its 10th anniversary exhibit, Stories From the Attic: 10 Years of Collecting. Objects from the museum's collection are on display, along with the stories behind them. Admission is free.
