Heels top 'Hounds for 12-4 victory

Fourth-ranked North Carolina got three goals from Jess Allen and two each from Christina Juras and Melissa McCarthy to defeat visiting, No. 11 Loyola, 12-4, last night.

The Tar Heels (3-0) out-shot Loyola, 35-14, including 21-8 in the second half. North Carolina also dominated ground balls, 25-11. The Greyhounds committed 29 fouls to the Tar Heels' 16.

Kate McHarg scored three goals to lead the Greyhounds (2-1).

Hood at Chestnut Hill -- The season opener for the Blazers and Griffins was postponed because of unplayable field conditions caused by heavy rain in Philadelphia. No makeup date has been announced. Hood will now make its 2006 debut at Villa Julie on Friday at 4 p.m.
