Western's Lewis runs to 4A-3A state titles
Sport Indoor track and field
At the Class 4A-3A indoor track and field state championships Feb. 21, Western senior Theresa Lewis won titles in both the 55 meters (7.16 seconds) and 55 hurdles (8.01) for a second straight year to lead the Doves to a third-place finish with 52 points.
She also took fourth place in the shot put and ran a leg on Western's 800-meter relay team that finished second. Overcoming adversity was the key in her 55-meter sprint victory.
After Lewis thought she had disqualified herself on a false start, it turned out another runner had moved first and she was able to regroup to edge Largo senior Michaylin Golladay by .01 of a second. Headed to Louisville in the fall, Lewis is a two-time All-Metro selection in the winter track season and last spring was named the Metro Performer of the Year in outdoors.
Others considered: Simone Egwu, Arundel, basketball; Kelsey Erdman, River Hill, basketball; Paris Williams, Aberdeen, indoor track and field.
