The death of a woman whose body was found Saturday morning in the basement of her West Baltimore home has been ruled a homicide by the state medical examiner's office after an autopsy, city police said yesterday.
But police would not divulge the cause of death of the victim, Dorine Smith, 67.
A widow and a retired factory employee, Smith lived alone in a rowhouse in the 2000 block of Braddish Ave., said homicide Detective Joseph Jefferson.
A member of Smith's church checking on her about 9 a.m. Saturday noticed the front door ajar and called police, Jefferson said.
Her body was found in an apartment in the basement, and it appeared she had been dead for at least two days, he said.
"Her death is definitely a homicide, but I'm not saying how she died," Jefferson said.
Metro Crime Stoppers at 410-276-8888 is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
