QUESTION OF THE DAY

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Why aren't more people watching the Winter Olympics?

The introduction of trash sports (snowboarding, freestyle skiing) and NHL players detract from the Winter Olympics. Are these the Olympics, or are they X Games? ... Also, the fact that the coverage is fractured and scattered over different cable and broadcast channels makes me less interested.

Because as America becomes more and more a couch- potato nation compared with the past, many would rather spend time complaining about snow than get out and get some exercise in it (e.g., cross-country skiing or alpine skiing). This translates into lack of interest in winter sports and the Winter Olympics in general.
