Smoking cessation classes are planned
The Harford County Health Department will hold a five-week series of free stop-smoking classes for county residents at the Health Department, 119 Hays St., Bel Air.
Classes include developing a quit-smoking plan, learning stress management techniques and discussing relapse prevention. Nicotine patches and lozenges are available to participants who qualify.
The five-week session will begin Feb. 28 with a Pre-Quitting Class from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Other classes are from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 7, 14, 21 and 28.
Registration is required and the Pre-Quitting Class is mandatory for first-time participants.
Auction will benefit kids with disabilities
Channel 2 News Sports Director Scott Garceau will join other "celebrity chefs" at the "After dArc Celebrity Chef and Auction" event sponsored by the Arc Northern Chesapeake Region from 7 p.m. to midnight March 4 at Maryland Golf & Country Clubs in Bel Air.
Other celebrity chefs will include Harford County Executive David Craig and his wife; Mary Chance, Harford County government; Del. Sheryl L. Davis-Kohl; former Del. William H. Cox; and Fred Simmons, mayor of Aberdeen. They will prepare an American and international menu.
The event will include a silent and live auction, wine-tasting festivities, martini bar, music and dancing orchestrated by Wright Still of DJ Saxman.
The evening will end in the drawing of the winning raffle ticket for a new Pontiac Solstice.
Tickets are $125 per person. The Arc hopes to raise more than $100,000 for individuals and children with developmental disabilities and their families in Harford and Cecil counties.

Medical program names new director
Upper Chesapeake Health has announced the appointment of Dr. Terrence Fullum as medical director of Upper Chesapeake Bariatric Surgery.
A board-certified surgeon with more than 10 years of experience in advanced laparoscopic general surgery, he replaces Dr. Roy T. Smoot Jr., who retired in January.
Fullum also serves as associate professor of surgery at Howard University College of Medicine, chairman of the department of surgery and director of the advanced laparoscopic and bariatric fellowship at Providence Hospital, and director of Holy Cross Hospital's laparoscopic bariatric surgery program.
He received his undergraduate degree from Penn State University and his medical degree from Howard University.
