Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. today appointed Mary C. Reese to the Howard County District Court.
Her name will be submitted this week to the state Senate for confirmation to a 10-year term, the governor's office said. Reese succeeds Judge Louis A. Becker III, who was elevated to the Howard County Circuit Court last year.
"I am pleased to appoint Mary Reese who has been determined by a panel of lawyers and laypeople to be legally and most fully professionally qualified for this judgeship," Ehrlich said in a statement. "Her experience and ability will serve the best interests of the citizens of Howard County during her term."
Reese, 44, has been in private practice with Reese & Carney, LLP since 1996, representing clients in criminal and civil litigation. She is also general counsel to the Howard County Board of Elections.
Previously, Reese worked as an assistant state's attorney for the Howard County state's attorney's office. According to the governor's office, she earned her bachelor's degree from Mount Saint Mary's College in 1983 and her law degree from the University of Baltimore in 1989. She is a member of the Maryland and Howard County bar associations.
