A former basketball coach and student advocate at North County High School in Anne Arundel County was sentenced yesterday to six months' incarceration followed by three years of probation for having had a sexual relationship with a student at the Ferndale school.
A year of sexual encounters between Henry F. Mouzon III, 34, of Columbia and the student ended last spring, when she was 16 and disclosed it to a relative.
Yesterday, Mouzon apologized for his poor judgment. Circuit Judge Joseph P. Manck sentenced Mouzon to serve two months in the county jail, followed by four months of work release or house arrest, then three years of probation. An 18-month sentence was suspended. He is to register as a sex offender, said Assistant State's Attorney Frank J. Ragione.
Mouzon began working at the school in 2001, as a boys basketball coach and liaison between the school and parents. He was reassigned to administrative duties when charged in May, according to school officials at the time. Ragione said Mouzon later was fired for not coming to work. School officials were not available for comment yesterday.
