The Family Tree will offer a five-week session of the Guiding Good Choices program for parents of children in grades four through eight from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays, starting Feb. 27, at the east Columbia library, 6600 Cradlerock Way.
The program is designed to provide parents with support and techniques to prevent drug use and problem behavior, and strengthen family bonds.
Dinner will be served. Admission is free. Child care is not provided. Registration is requested.

At the library -- Howard County Chess Club will meet from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at the east Columbia library, 6600 Cradlerock Way.
The library's Good Reads Book Club will discuss Perfect Match, by Jodi Picoult, at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Parent/Child Book Club, a group for those ages 9 to 12 to discuss books with their parents and peers, will talk about Deliver Us From Normal, by Kate Klise, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 21. Morning Books With Coffee, a group that reads fiction while having coffee, will discuss The Man Who Ate the 747, by Ben Sherwood, at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 27 at the library. Registration for the book clubs is not needed, and copies of the books are available at the branch.
The library's New Release Cinema will show a popular digital video disc on a large screen at 7 p.m. Feb. 16. The title will be announced. Popcorn and drinks will be provided.
Registration begins Saturday for the east Columbia library's Winter Party for youth ages 11 to 14, to be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 25. The celebration will include snacks, games, crafts and music. 410-313-7700.
