Hurricanes 4, Thrashers 3 -- Frantisek Kaberle scored 32 seconds into overtime to give visiting Carolina a victory over Atlanta. Eric Staal had two goals in Carolina's first victory over Atlanta in three meetings this season.
Senators 4, Canadiens 0 -- Ray Emery won his NHL-record ninth straight game to start his career, stopping 27 shots to lead host Ottawa to a victory over Montreal. Emery, 23, broke the record of eight straight wins set by Philadelphia's Bob Froese during the 1982-83 season. Dany Heatley extended his point streak to 21 games.
Off the ice -- Mike Danton, the former St. Louis Blues player serving a 7 1/2 -year sentence for plotting to kill his agent, wants out of prison on a claim that authorities unfairly delayed a transfer to his native Canada. Danton asks in a lawsuit that a federal judge order a new sentencing and set him free in the meantime. He is held in a low-security prison in Fort Dix, N.J. Danton, 25, who played one season with the Blues, pleaded guilty in July 2004 of orchestrating a conspiracy to commit interstate murder. A judge sentenced Danton to 90 months behind bars.
