An Anne Arundel County police officer was treated at a Baltimore hospital over the weekend after she was dragged 45 feet by a fleeing suspect, police said yesterday.
Officer Tanya Minion suffered minor injuries after she grabbed onto a vehicle as the suspect sped away from police at 1 a.m. Sunday, police said. The driver pushed the officer off the car, police said.
Tony Joseph Wieland, 39, of Jessup was later arrested and charged with assault, resisting arrest and first-degree burglary, police said.
Minion and another officer were responding to a 911 call in the 1100 block of Wynbrook Road in Glen Burnie, said David D. Waltemeyer, a county police spokesman. A man had broken a woman's front windows and was sitting in a red Nissan when police arrived, Waltemeyer said.
Police found the man in his car and began to talk with him, but he drove away, Waltemeyer said. Minion grabbed the man's open door so it wouldn't knock her down, Waltemeyer said.
Wieland was arrested after a brief car chase, police said.
