The Heart of Maryland Barbershop Chorus will give two performances at River Hill High School in Clarksville for its annual fundraising concert at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sept. 17.
Audiences will be treated to a program of barbershop classics, show tunes and patriotic songs. The program will also feature a number of quartets, including the Ringers, All in Accord and the River Hill High School barbershop quartet.
The Heart of Maryland Barbershop Chorus has entertained audiences at Orioles games and Flag Day festivities at Fort McHenry, and it is to compete at the Mid-Atlantic Division of Barbershop Choruses in October in Wildwood, N.J.
Tickets for the Sept. 17 performances are $18 for preferred seating and $12 for general seating.

Howard Bank elects Clark to its board
Andrew E. Clark has been elected to the board of directors of Howard Bank.
Clark is president of Wheatfield Ventures LLC, a private equity fund concentrating on early-stage investing in the technology sector. He previously worked as a senior executive with Verio Inc.
The Ellicott City resident is a member of the board of trustees of Glenelg Country School and is co-chair of the school's capital campaign. Clark also serves on the boards of a variety of for-profit technology and investment companies in Central Maryland.
Marriotts Ridge High School will hold its opening ceremony from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today. The school's booster club will sell spirit wear a half-hour before the ceremony.
River Hill Community Association will sponsor a presentation on affordable housing at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Claret Hall in River Hill Village Center, Clarksville. Representatives from the Interfaith Coalition for Affordable Housing will talk about the need for such housing in Howard County and the organization's proposal for "middle-income inclusionary zoning." Also to be discussed are housing density, myths associated with affordable housing and the design of reasonably priced houses. The program is co-sponsored by the Columbia village associations. River Hill Community Association will sponsor a "Grand-Breakfast" to celebrate Grandparents Day from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sept. 10 at Claret Hall, 6020 Daybreak Circle in the village center. The Glenwood Library will hold an Internet workshop, "Libraries Mean Business," at 7 p.m. Sept. 19. Participants will learn the basics of using the Web as a marketplace with representatives from the Small Business Administration.
