On August 19, 2005, BROTHER JOHN DEVOE, CFX, died in St. Agnes Hospital from pancreatic cancer and pneumonia. Brother John, also known as Brother Brennan, was 74 at the time of his death. He excelled as a mathematics teacher and track coach at numberous schools throughout the United States, England and East Africa. His most recent assignment was at St. Mary's Ryken High School in southern Maryland. After retiring, he volunteered to teach at The Learning Bank in Baltimore until his health failed. Brother John was the son of the late Joseph and Nora Devoe. He is survived by his brother, Joseph Devoe, his sister, Frances Farnsworth, many, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and his brother-in-law, John Perrotta, the husband of his late sister Regina. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at 9:45 A.M. in the chapel of St. Elizabeth's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 3320 Benson Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21227. A viewing will be held there for family and friends beginning at 9 A.M. Burial will be in New Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to th Xaverian Brothers, 4409 Frederick Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21229.
