Cosmic Cocktail in 2 weeks: Get your ticket today before they sell out.

Well, hello B-more.

Glad to meet you. In the time I've lived here -- all of three months -- you've been most welcoming.

I've been immersed in the culture of the area, from the opening of the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture and the African American Festival of the Arts to a Sun-sponsored event that featured Iman and an international business conference sponsored by the Washington-based Corporate Council on Africa.

And as I've met new faces and examined the landscape, the Baltimore area reminds me of my hometown of Philadelphia.

I've worked in the South most of my career, and I'm looking forward to getting acquainted with my new home.

I'll be out and about, and so will the talented writers of UniSun.

We want to continue to shape UniSun by writing about people who encourage and inspire.

We want to provide profiles and colorful stories on a variety of topics and lifestyle issues that shape the Greater Baltimore African-American community.

In this edition, we've built a publication around history, religion and upcoming events.

Our cover story by Sun staff writer Joe Burris gets beyond the summer opening of the Lewis Museum and delves into how this new institution will weave black history into the curriculum of Maryland's public schools.

Next is a story by contributor Barbara Evans, who tells how Christian churches are teaching their members how to get out of debt, invest more money in themselves, the community and the church -- all according to biblical principles.

We now have an expanded Up Front that features a variety of things to do and other items of interest.

This is just the beginning of what I expect will be a lasting relationship.

We'll build on that. One issue at a time. But you won't have to wait until the next edition -- on Oct. 2 -- to hear from me.

Starting this month, we'll be updating the UniSun Web site ( / unisun) with daily headlines and calendar events each Wednesday. So send your event to and let us know what's going on.

I want to hear from you. But more important, I hope to see you soon!
